John Mayer has returned with The Search for Everything Wave One, his first new music in three years. The four-track EP is the first in a series of releases from the new album. Every month, he has promised to debut four new tracks.
Explaining the unique release strategy in a post on his official Facebook page, Mayer wrote that “there were too many songs to ever get out the door at once.”
Late Thursday night, the “Gravity” singer quietly dropped the EP, broadcasting his feelings via Twitter. “My heart’s racing. These songs represent literally hundreds of hours of living inside of these little worlds. And more to come.”
The songs are signature Mayer: a smooth blend of soft-rock with a touch of soul, underscored with funky guitar riffs. Mayer also acknowledged his collaborators on his social media, since fans won’t be getting any liner notes to pore over anytime soon. Apart from himself, the team he worked with includes Steve Jordan, Pino Palladino, Chad Franscoviak and Martin Pradler.
While he hasn’t made plain how many months of releases he has in store for fans, these four songs should provide enough fuel to get through to February.
