Over the last week, John Mayer has been teasing that new music was coming, and today (Nov. 17) it is FINALLY here. The Grammy winning singer/songwriter has finally shared his brand new single "Love On The Weekend," the first single from his upcoming sixth studio album The Search For Everything -- a title that comes from a poem he wrote.
"Love On The Weekend" is John's first new release since his cover of Beyoncé's "XO," and his first original music since his 2013 album Paradise Valley. The song showcases those familiar John Mayer guitar riffs, a catchy piano melody, and relaxed rhythm. As for the lyrics, John softly sings:
"It's a Friday, we finally made it/I can't believe I get to see your face/You've been working, and I've been waiting/To pick you up and take you from this place/Love on the weekend, love on the weekend/Like only we can."
With this new song, John has obviously been busy in the studio. In fact, he mentioned during a Facebook Live, "I do think that next year is a year of more music coming than I've ever put out in any one year."
After hearing "Love On The Weekend," we're excited to see what else is in store from Mayer from his new album. During the Facebook live, he says, "This is a record that is fully me" and adds of "Love On The Weekend" that he wrote the song really fast and that "this is a taste of the record, it's a really cool vibe."
To support his new album, John is also heading out on the road on tour, and if you're a John Mayer fan of any capacity, it sounds like you will NOT want to miss the trek. He said of the tour (which kicks off in the spring), "Everything that you wish would happen next year, will happen next year." And aside from songs from his new album The Search For Everything, fans can look forward to hearing your favorites from older albums -- he mentioned Born & Raised and Paradise Valley specifically during his Facebook Live. He adds, "I'm really excited."
