Katy Perry announced on Thursday that her fifth pop album, which drops Aug. 14, is titled Smile.
“I wrote the title track from the album when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life and had lost my smile,” the pop star shared on social media. “This whole album is my journey towards the light – with stories of resilience, hope, and love.”
The title song, which samples Naughty by Nature’s 1999 track “Jamboree,” dropped at midnight.
"I hope it can be a few minutes of energizing hopefulness for you as it is for meee," Perry wrote on Instagram.
In "Smile," Perry gives a shout out to one of her fellow American Idol judges. "Now I got a smile like Lionel Richie / Big and bright, need shades just to see me / Tryin' to stay alive just like I'm the Bee Gees / A Mona Lisa masterpiece."
Perry previously released singles “Never Really Over,” “Harleys In Hawaii” and “Daisies.”
Smile is the 35-year-old’s first album since 2017’s Witness – and it’s not the only thing she’s putting out into the world this summer. Perry is expecting her first baby with fiancé Orlando Bloom.
