Keith Urban is paying a timely tribute to the opposite sex with his new song “Female.”
The country star debuted the track at Wednesday night’s Country Music Association Awards.
“When somebody laughs and implies that she asked for it just because she was wearing a skirt / Oh, is that how it works?,” Urban sings. “When somebody talks about how it was Adam first / does that make you second best or did He save the best for last?”
Co-written by Ross Copperman (“Setting The World On Fire”), Nicolle Galyon (“All The Pretty Girls”) and Shane McAnally (“Body Like A Back Road”), the song was recorded on Halloween and co-produced by Copperman, Urban and Dann Huff.
There’s even a reference to Beyoncé’s hit “Run The World (Girls)” in the early moments of “Female," which comes as dozens of women feel empowered to speak up about sexual assault and harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
At the CMAs, Urban told reporters the song resonated with him as a husband (to Nicole Kidman) and a father of two girls.
