Techno fans around the world are moving to the beat of… 82-year-old Leonard Cohen? Hallelujah!
The title track from the 82-year-old Canadian icon’s new album You Want it Darker (out Oct. 21) has been remixed for dance floors and EDM festivals.
German artist Paul Kalkbrenner debuted his house remix of “You Want it Darker” at Lollapalooza Berlin last month and Bosnia-born DJ Solomun recently played his own version at a Paris club.
The haunting song — an “unflinching exploration of the religious mind,” according to a press release — features Montreal’s Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Choir.
In it, Cohen says: ”They're lining up the prisoners and the guards are taking aim/I struggled with some demons/They were middle class and tame/I didn't know I had permission to murder and to maim/You want it darker/I'm ready my lord."
The album was produced by the artist’s son, singer Adam Cohen.
