Major Lazer released new song “Run Up” Thursday, featuring Nicki Minaj and Canadian artist PARTYNEXTDOOR, who is signed to Drake’s OVO label.
“It's always important for us to work with people who are on the same wave,” said Diplo in a statement. “Nicki and Party really helped us bring the classic Major Lazer style to create this perfect party record.”
Diplo also called in to Zane Lowe’s radio show for Beats 1 to speak about working with Minaj and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
“We love Party,” he said in the interview. “We write a lot with him, he's local here in LA, and Nicki, I was working on some stuff for her record. The timing was right. I've been trying to get Nicki to do something with us for a couple years now.”
The 23-year-old Mississauga native was the first artist signed to OVO, and has slowly been amassing a dedicated fanbase since, with songs like “Not Nice” and Billboard-charting “Recognize” featuring Drake.
