Maren Morris has released her song “Dear Hate” in the wake of a mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 59 people and left over 527 wounded.
Morris was one of the performers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival but was not there on Sunday night when the massacre happened.
“I wrote this song 3 years ago, recorded it last year with Vince Gill, and always have fans asking when I’ll put it out,” the country singer explained in a message shared on social media.
“I never knew when would be the right time, but I realized today that there’s never a right time. Hate is everywhere, and I’m sick of not doing enough. In the darkest tunnel, there is still love & music. That’s what it’s here for.”
Morris has pledged to donate her proceeds from the song, which she co-wrote with Tom Douglas and David Hodges, to the Music City Cares Fund.
