Canadian country star Meghan Patrick on Friday shared “Things I Shouldn’t Say,” the latest single from her 2019 EP Wild as Me.
“Those who know me know I speak my mind, even if it’s something some people think I ‘shouldn’t say.’ If I want something, I go and get it, and that’s for relationships as much as my career,” Patrick explained, in a release. “I feel like somewhere along the line it became not ok for women to speak freely about their sexuality within their music or about being the aggressor in an intimate situation, especially in country music. I wanted to change that.
“There’s nothing wrong with saying you want someone or that you desire their touch or their affection, and that’s what I wanted to say in this song.”

Last summer, the two-time CCMA Female Artist of the Year took to social media to call out a man who shouted a sexist comment during her performance at a music festival. “This is not a hobby. This is my livelihood, my heart and soul. I give everything I have into the songs I write and my performances,” she explained in an Instagram post.
“To have something that means so much to me be degraded to that? F**k that. And f**k the guy who said that. I have worked my ass off for a long time to get to the point where I earned a headlining slot. I EARNED it. And I deserved a hell of a lot more respect than that.”
Patrick is spending much of the rest of winter performing shows in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC – both on her own and as warm-up for Old Dominion.
