Miley Cyrus has put her twist on “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” a song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Cyrus teamed up with producer Mark Ronson for the cover, which features backing vocals by John and Yoko’s son Sean Lennon.
“It’s just so magic every time we sing it,” Cyrus told Howard Stern this week. “Goosebumps all over the place.” She said the song remains timely. “All we do is complain and we don’t actually get out there and do enough in our communities.”
“Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” was recorded in October 1971 and released on Dec. 1, credited to John & Yoko / The Plastic Ono Band, with the Harlem Community Choir. It remains a holiday season staple and has been covered previously by artists like Diana Ross and Neil Diamond as well as Canada’s Daniel Powter and Céline Dion.
Cyrus will perform the song with Ronson and Lennon on tomorrow’s Saturday Night Live.
