New Order has premiered “Be a Rebel,” its first new song in five years.
“In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song,” explained frontman Bernard Sumner, in a release. “We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy it.”
In the track’s chorus, Sumner sings: “Take a look at yourself / You may not be the same as everyone else / You’re just different, that’s OK / We all follow our own way / And if you find that they won’t listen / Then they’ve got nothing to say / So don’t get mad and don’t feel sad / Be a rebel.”
New Order has not shared new material since 2015’s Music Complete, the group’s 10th studio album.
Their tour with Pet Shop Boys was bumped to next year due to COVID-19. They are scheduled to kick it off on Sept. 18, 2021 in Toronto and will stop in Vancouver on Oct. 7, 2021.
