Two former members of Fifth Harmony are kicking off the year with hot new tracks – Normani adds her voice to Sam Smith’s “Dancing With a Stranger” and Lauren Jauregui serves up “More Than That.”
For Smith, sharing a song with Normani comes a little more than a year after he shared a ride with her. During his Carpool Karaoke appearance in 2017, the British singer told James Corden he was “obsessed” with the group and declared himself a Harmonizer. Normani and the others then surprised him by climbing into the back seat.
“Dancing With a Stranger” reportedly came about when Smith and Normani were working in a Los Angeles studio at the same time.
Normani recently opened up to Rolling Stone about doubts she had while in Fifth Harmony. “You think, ‘Why am I the least-followed in the group?’ Even if you don’t recognize that you’re paying close attention to it, it takes a toll on your confidence,” she admitted. “You worry — is it me? Is it because I’m black? Or am I just not talented?"
“More Than That” is Jauregui’s second solo single following last year’s “Expectations” and will be part of her forthcoming debut album.
Jauregui has said she's been drawing inspiration from Greek mythology. "Aphrodite has been my goddess of inspiration for this round," she explained on Instagram Live. "She’s very sensual. She’s about love. She’s about connection with pleasure and self […] and that was really important to me."
“You gonna have to come stronger than this liquor /Wanna take me home, better be more convincing,” she sings. “It’ll take more than that to get to me / More than that to get your way.”
