The men of Canadian country music — Dallas Smith, Dean Brody, Brett Kissel, Tim Hicks — are tearing it up and now, an artist who paved the way is making a comeback.
Paul Brandt, who has collected a pile of CCMA and Juno Awards since debuting “My Heart Has A History” in 1996, is set to release a new album, The Journey, next year.
It’s his first country album since Give It Away in 2011 (he put out gospel album Just As I Am in 2012) and the first collection of music since the 2015 EP Borderlines, which spawned the hit collaboration with Jess Moskaluke, “I'm an Open Road.”
Brandt is warming fans up with the title track from his new album:
Brandt had several No. 1 hits in Canada off his debut album Calm Before The Storm and was named Country Male Vocalist of the Year at the Junos in 1997. He went on to earn the title five more times.
At this year’s CCMAs on Sept. 9, the 45-year-old Calgary native will be inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
