Scott Helman has released what is decidedly not the feel-good song of the season.
“Everything sucks / I got f**ked up on you,” he sings. “Give everything that I'll ever have / Just to get you back.”
The 23-year-old Canadian singer said he wrote the song “about a time in my life when I was crippled by depression and despair.”
In a release, he explained: “I searched for a song that could help lift my spirits, while simultaneously justifying the experience I was going through. I found that hard to do, so I wrote one myself just for you.”

The track was released along with a “visualizer” that Helman crafted himself. “I put my entire mess of a brain into this thing,” he said.
Since 2014, Helman has released four EPs and one studio album, 2017’s Hôtel de Ville. His hits include “Bungalow,” “Kinda Complicated” and “PDA.” Last year, he shared the title track from his EP Hang Ups.
Fans can catch Helman doing solo acoustic sets Oct. 1 in Toronto and Oct. 4 in Montreal.
