If you need a breather from the political madness south of the border, look no further than The xx's just-released single, "On Hold," the first taste of the new album I See You, which drops on Jan. 13.
"On Hold," which samples Hall and Oates' 1981 hit "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," sees the indie pop trio keeping in line with their minimalist approach, but pushing their growth in a new direction, courtesy of producer Jamie XX.
Most notably, Daryl Hall's voice is morphed and distorted into a funky hook.
After dropping their sophomore effort, Coexist, in 2012, the group went on to record I See You between March 2014 and 2016 in locations like New York, Marfa, Texas, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London. This marks the act's third album. With Scottish hitmaker Rodaidh McDonald (Adele, Vampire Weekend) in tow, the collection is comprised of 10 cuts and includes titles like "Say Something Loving," "Performance," and "Test Me."
The xx said on Twitter: "We know these are uncertain times and we hope the joy & love we found making the record will get out into the world, in however small a way."
