Thom Yorke, who has been hard at work scoring the upcoming film Suspiria, recently took a break to write a song in collaboration with Greenpeace.
"Hands Off The Antarctic" is a track that celebrates the nonprofit's entreaty to the Antarctic Ocean Commission to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.
The hypnotic, pulsating instrumental track was paired with black and white footage of the Antarctic taken from the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise.
"There are some places on this planet that are meant to stay raw and wild and not destroyed by humanity’s footprint,” the Radiohead frontman said, in a release. “This track is about stopping the relentless march of those heavy footsteps. The Antarctic is a true wilderness and what happens there affects us all. That’s why we should protect it.”
Yorke recently announced the Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes tour with longtime producer Nigel Godrich and audiovisual collaborator Tarik Barri.
It is a live electronic performance that will feature songs from Yorke's two solo albums, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes and The Eraser, as well as material by Atoms for Peace, his side project with Godrich. No Canadian dates are scheduled.
