Canadian singer VALDII – formerly known as Eleven Past One frontman Daniel Richter – releases his first solo single on Friday.
Here’s your first listen to “Toxic,” which VALDII describes as a very personal song.
“I wrote it about a lifelong friend of mine and how him and my, at the the time fiancée, didn’t get along at all,” he explained. “Alcohol had a lot to do with the root of the problem and I touch on that in the storyline.
“It brought a lot of drama in my life and it created a lot of toxicity between the three of us.”
Richter announced in January that he was focusing on his solo career using his middle name.
“It comes from my German background,” he said at the time. “I inherited the name from my Opa who always loved to hear me sing and play the piano.”
“Toxic” is a taste of what’s to come on VALDII’s forthcoming EP, which he hopes to put out later this year.
