Lizzo has revealed that she did not lose her virginity until she won her first Grammy.
Appearing on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast on Tuesday (March 31), the 37-year-old singer told hosts benny blanco, Lil Dicky (Dave Burd) and Kristin Batalucco her secret, admitting, “I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time."
The four-time Grammy winner then asked the hosts to take a guess as to when she was deflowered, eventually sharing that it wasn't until 2020 at the age of 30."
“Isn’t that crazy? … I wasn’t even thinking about it," she said. "For me, I just promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy."
Lizzo didn't just win her first Grammy in 2020, she won her first three, taking home Best Urban Contemporary Album (the deluxe edition of Cuz I Love You), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Truth Hurts”) and Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Jerome”).
When asked by Batalucco if she had sex the night of the Grammys, she said no, she didn't rush to do it, but lost her viriginity not long after. Sex, she said, was not the first thing she thought of when she won that first award either.
Another confession Lizzo made was that she used to lie about her sex life, describing the feeling as “so embarrassing.” She even denied being a virgin when she was asked by a group of her friends. “I said, ‘I love the D!’," she recalls. "I said that. It was so f**king embarrassing… I was like, ‘I love the D’ and it held me over for a little while.”
Lizzo added that she also didn't have her first real kiss until the age of 21, mostly because of a commitment to her faith.
“When we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage,” she said. “And then, I was just so scared. No one wanted to kiss me.”
But the kiss didn't leave much of an impression on her. “It was terrible. It was a New Year’s Eve thing and he, like, forced it on me,” she explained. “I was really mad and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined!'”
