Lizzo made her debut as musical guest on Saturday Night Live – and it was a memorable one.
The 31-year-old singer, decked out in Dapper Dan x Gucci, belted out her hit “Truth Hurts” while backed by an all-female band. (Lizzo’s choice of guitarist was a wink to the late Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a gospel music star in the 1930s and ‘40s who pioneered a technique for playing electric guitar.)
She returned later in the show to do “Good As Hell” on a festive set that included candy cane stripper poles. “Happy holidays y’all,” Lizzo said before starting the song. “Be kind to one another, but most importantly, be good to yourself.”
What SNL viewers didn’t see, though, was Lizzo in a pre-recorded sketch with cast member Aidy Bryant that was cut for time. “Do you ever feel like you’re only 90 per cent that b**ch?,” Bryant asks. Lizzo replies: “No, but maybe you’re burning the a** at both ends.”
