Lollapalooza on Tuesday became one of the last big music festivals to announce its cancellation to COVID-19.
The iconic Chicago event was scheduled to take place July 30 to Aug. 2.
“We wish we could bring Lollapalooza to Grant Park again this year, but we understand why things can’t move forward as planned,” reads a message on the festival website. “The health and safety of our fans, artists, partners, staff and community is always our highest priority.
“It’s difficult to imagine summer without our annual weekend together, sharing the undeniable energy generated when live music and our incredible community of fans unite.”
Organizers said they will announce next month details of a livestream festival that will include new and archival performances.
Lollapalooza delayed an announcement of its 2020 line-up in March due to the pandemic, telling fans at the time: “We are at home, taking care of each other, listening to music, and dreaming of summertime in Chicago.”
Montreal's Osheaga, which is held the same weekend as Lollapalooza, was also cancelled on Tuesday. According to Billboard, Coachella – the April festival in California that was postponed to October – will not happen until 2021.
In March, Lollapalooza festivals in Chile, Argentina and Brazil were pushed to November and December. This summer’s Lollapalooza France was cancelled.
