A new three-part docuseries documenting the 30+ years of the Lollapalooza festival is set to hit Paramount+ beginning May 21.
LOLLA: THE STORY OF LOLLAPALOOZA was directed by Michael John Warren (Jay-Z’s Fade to Black) and first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January.
The press release states the documentary will take a look at "the exciting and strangely symbiotic 30+ year relationship between the iconic festival and Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros). Throughout the series, Farrell reconnects with what the event has become and reflects on the festival’s cultural significance across multiple genres and decades."
Lollapalooza was founded in 1991 as a farewell tour for Farrell's influential alternative rock band Jane's Addiction. The tour expanded into a travelling festival for the summer featuring a variety of artists that identified as alternative music. From 1991 to 1998, the festival helped launch what the doc calls "a cultural movement and change music forever."
In 2005, the festival became an annual weekend festival at Chicago's Grant Park, as well as other parts of the world including South America and Europe, which has seen big names such as Lady Gaga, Eminem, Drake, Daft Punk, Billie Eilish and more headline over the years.
