While everyone else was nodding along to Radiohead’s headlining Coachella set, Lorde was playing her first concert in two years to packed-out saloon Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, California (because, of course).
Tickets went for $20 a pop, because “i'm 20 and because i love you. let's get raucous before coachella on sunday night AHH,” Lorde tweeted. Tickets sold out in a matter of minutes.
Those in attendance were treated to new music off of the New Zealand singer’s forthcoming album, Melodrama. The two songs she performed for the crowd were “Sober” and the title track, “Melodrama”.
Keeping the banter friendly, the “Liability” singer struck up a conversation with her 240-strong audience. “What have you been doing the past two years?” one fan asked, as per Billboard. “Well I bought a house in New Zealand and I don't garden yet but I've been cooking, baking, going to the beach.”
She also addressed comments made about her dancing.
"I didn't realize that my dancing was questionable until I became a pop star," she joked with the audience. "I want you to dance like you're alone in your bedroom and you don't give a f--k. Are you in?"
Luckily, recordings of the songs quickly appeared online. Listen to snippets of “Sober” and “Melodrama” below ahead of Lorde’s performance tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 16) at Coachella:
