Record of the Day Music Editor Lee Thompson yesterday (Feb. 27) said on Twitter that we can expect Lorde’s new single, reportedly titled “Green Light”, as early as this Friday.
The New Zealand singer hasn’t released any new music since 2014, when she laid down a track for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I soundtrack, which she also curated. Her debut album Pure Heroine was released back in 2013.
The 20-year-old is set to perform on Saturday Night Live Mar. 11, which will likely be the first time she will perform the new single live.
A mysterious television ad that aired in New Zealand this past week featuring the singer snacking in the back of a car concludes with the date Mar. 2, 2017, alongside text that simply reads “NYC”. Will that mean a surprise performance or some grassroots marketing will kick off in the Big Apple?
While the singer has been elusive since her debut release, fans are waiting with baited breath for her sophomore effort, which is rumoured to come out (according to ROTD editor Thompson) mid-June. That timing doesn’t match up so well, however, with her slots performing at Coachella in April and the Governor’s Ball at the beginning of June in New York.
Friday, on the other hand, isn’t too long of a wait! Watch the cryptic teaser below:
