Louis Tomlinson was arrested Friday night after being accused of assaulting a paparazzo.
The 25-year-old One Direction star was released early Saturday on $20,000 USD bail from a Los Angeles jail.
According to reports, Tomlinson and girlfriend Eleanor Calder were in the baggage claim area of LAX just before 8:30 p.m. -- returning from a Las Vegas vacation -- when a photographer was pulled to the floor by his legs and struck his head.
Los Angeles Police Department said Tomlinson was surrounded by paparazzi at the airport. "There was some pushing and shoving and one of the paparazzi fell down," a spokesperson said.
Tomlinson also allegedly tried to take a mobile device from a female witness who was recording a confrontation with Calder. He is accused of grabbing her by the waist and causing her to fall down.
Both the female and the paparazzo made citizens' arrests.
Tomlinson was booked for simple battery. He is due in L.A. County Superior Court on March 29.
Martin Singer, a lawyer for the singer, said the paparazzi “provoked and caused the altercation” and that three others were “attacking” Calder and “he came to her defence.”
