The director of the new movie Love Again has revealed there was one line in the script that made Céline Dion uncomfortable.
James C. Strouse said the Canadian singer was doing a scene in which she is on the phone with Priyanka Chopra’s character Mira, who asks her: “How did you find my number?” The script called for Dion to reply “I am Céline Dion. I can have anything I want.”
Strouse told La Presse: “Céline turned to me and said, ‘It's not something I would say.’ She didn't want to look arrogant. And that's why I love her.”
Filmed in 2020, Love Again was inspired by the 2016 German film SMS für dich, which is based on Sofie Cramer’s 2009 novel of the same name. When it was announced in 2019, the movie was titled Text For You. After Dion was cast, it became It’s All Coming Back to Me, the title of the 1989 Pandora’s Box ballad that was a huge hit for her seven years later. The new title was revealed last November.
In the movie, Mira starts sending text messages to her late fiancé’s phone only to find out the number now belongs to Rob (Sam Heughan), a writer going through similar heartbreak while working on a profile of Dion.
Dion, who only has about 10 minutes of screen time in Love Again, previously played herself on episodes of The Nanny, All My Children and Touched by an Angel and showed up as Miss Piggy’s Fairy Godmother in 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted. She made her acting debut in the 1991 Quebec mini-series Des Fleurs Sur La Neige.
“I had a lot of fun doing this movie,” Dion said in a release. “It’s a wonderful feel-good story, and I hope that people will like it.”
Love Again opens on May 5.
