A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of selling pills to Mac Miller two days before the rapper died of an overdose.
Cameron James Pettit, 28, of Los Angeles allegedly supplied Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl on Sept. 5, 2018.
Miller was found dead in his home on Sept. 7, 2018. A coroner determined the 26-year-old died of a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.
Pettit, who has only been charged with providing the drugs, did not enter a plea when he appeared in court on Wednesday. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 10.
According to an affadavit, investigators found drugs they believe came from Pettit in Miller’s home. Following the rapper’s death, Pettit sent a message to a friend via Instagram that read: “Most likely I will die in jail. I’m gonna get off the grid. Move to another country.”
Investigators have text messages in which Miller asked Pettit for 10 “percs” (for Percocet) as well as 10 “bars” of Xanax and a “ball” of cocaine.
In 2016, Prince’s death was linked to fentanyl-laced pills and 3 Doors Down guitarist Matthew Roberts died of an overdose with fentanyl and hydrocodone in his system.
