In support of World AIDS Day on Friday, Madonna shared an acoustic cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” on Instagram.
With an infrared filter only merely showing the outline of the pop icon, Madonna sang the second verse of the In The Zone hit while strumming her guitar: ”It's getting late; To give you up; I took a sip; From my devil's cup; Slowly, it's taking over me.”
"Silence = Death! Song For World AIDS Day! #toxic #poisonparadise” she captioned along with wishing Spears a happy birthday, who turned 36 on Dec. 2.
In another post, Madonna shared the handwritten letter that she had published as a full-page ad in Billboard back in 1991, captioning it with: "We need to continue to make people aware of this disease, to do what we can to facilitate research and above all to practice safe sex!!”
The original letter reads:
"AIDS is not about being a celebrity.
It's about being a human being.
It's about educating yourself about the facts.
It's about getting involved in raising funds for research.
It's about fighting ignorance.
AIDS doesn't care if you're a drug addict or a movie star.
But we as people can care and make a difference.
In this season of giving and goodwill I urge you to get involved in any way you can.
Winning this war means working together.
Here's a list of organisations that deserve your time, money and support.
Give whatever you can and whatever it takes.
Peace and love, Madonna."
