Madonna closed out her Celebration Tour over the weekend with her biggest concert ever, performing a free show at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for approximately 1.6 million fans.
"Rio, here we are in the most beautiful place in the world," the Material Girl announced as she began her set.
The 26-song performance featured hits such as "Into the Groove," "Hung Up," and "Like A Prayer." She was also joined on stage by Brazilian stars such as drag queen Pablo Vittar for "Music" and pop singer Anitta during "Vogue."
The performance became the fifth-largest free concert ever held, and according to Live Nation, the largest ever standalone concert for any artist.
The free show was announced in March as a "thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour."
The Celebration Tour hit a snag last June when Madonna was hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection, forcing her to postpone all dates. She would go on to perform five Canadian shows at the beginning of 2024: two in Toronto and Montreal, as well as one in Vancouver.
Yesterday was a historical night for my city Rio de Janeiro. @madonna finished her tour at the Copacabana beach for more than 1 million people. Such a special time for all of us.
