Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams is forking out a reported $1.3 million to have Madonna perform at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv on May 18.
"I'm excited and proud to host Madonna in Israel," Adams said in a statement to The Jerusalem Post.
Adams, who made his fortune from his father's real estate development company Iberville Development Ltd., added: “I believe that the performance of Madonna at the Eurovision - accompanied by dozens of professional backup dancers – will make a significant contribution to the success of the event and to the strengthening of Israel's positive branding in the world."
Madonna – who kicked off The MDNA Tour in 2012 in Tev Aviv – is scheduled to perform one of her iconic hits as well as a new song – but Haaretz reported that producers are not thrilled that the song she plans to debut contains political messages.

The Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Tel Aviv this year because last year’s winner was Israeli singer Netta. There are calls to boycott the event in support of Palestine.
Earlier this year, Roger Waters, Peter Gabriel and dozens of other UK artists called on the BBC not to broadcast the event due to “Israel's systematic violation of Palestinian human rights.”
Previous winners of the Eurovision Song Contest include ABBA in 1974 and Canada's Céline Dion (representing Switzerland) in 1988.
