Only weeks after her new album was certified a flop, Madonna has urged haters to stop following her on social media.
The 60-year-old pop icon posted a bizarre expletive-packed video clip on Instagram over the weekend and captioned it with a poorly-written message for people questioning her relevance.
“IG police other wise known. as women hating Misogynistic. bigots can F**k off!!!!! Your fear of what I represent is palpable and the fact that you follow me and. Take the time to make remarks is an advertisement for your stupidity -ignorance and intolerance for that which is different,” wrote Madonna.
“if i am not relevant then prove it. Stop following me. Lol.”
Madonna’s album Madame X disappeared from the Billboard 200 chart after only two weeks and none of its singles are currently on the Billboard Hot 100.
Madame X, which came out on June 14, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 – giving the pop icon her ninth No. 1 album. But, according to Billboard, Madonna was No. 1 on the chart largely because she bundled the album with concert tickets and merchandise.
The following week, Madame X tumbled 76 spots – the year’s biggest fall from No. 1 and the fourth-farthest drop ever. In its third week, the album fell off the chart.
In Canada, Madame X debuted at No. 2 and then dropped to No. 38, and then to No. 85, before disappearing from the Top 100.
Last month, she complained publicly about a profile by The New York Times Magazine. “It seems. You cant fix society And its endless need to diminish, Disparage or degrade that which they know is good. Especially strong independent women,” she wrote on Instagram, adding that she felt “raped” by writer Vanessa Grigoriadis.
In May, it was revealed that her cringe-worthy vocals during a controversial performance in Tel Aviv were digitally altered before video was posted on YouTube.
Madonna is currently rehearsing for a tour of intimate venues that begins Sept. 12 with a 17-date residency in Brooklyn. She will then do runs in Chicago, Las Vegas, L.A., Boston, Philadelphia and Miami Beach before hitting Lisbon, London and Paris.
