Maren Morris leads the way at this year’s Country Music Association (CMA) Awards with eight nominations, including big categories like single of the year, song of the year and female vocalist of the year.
Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay follows with six nominations and his musical partner Shay Mooney has three. Brothers Osborne are going to the Nov. 13 show with four.
Country-rap hit “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus earned a single nod in the musical event of the year category. (It’s the first CMA nomination for Cyrus since “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992.)
Brooks & Dunn, who haven’t been nominated for a CMA Award since 2010, are vying for duo of the year and musical event of the year. Also vying for awards this year are country music veterans like Garth Brooks and Keith Urban.
Carrie Underwood is the lone female in the entertainer of the year category, up against Brooks, Urban, Eric Church and Chris Stapleton. She is also nominated for female vocalist of the year and album of the year.
Jenee Fleenor, a fiddle player who has played for Blake Shelton, Rascal Flats and Canada’s Terri Clark, is the first women nominated in the 21-year history of the musician of the year category.
The CMA Awards will be hosted by Underwood, Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire on Nov. 13.
