Mariah Carey not only jumped on the #BottleCapChallenge, she killed it.
The latest social media stunt involves kicking the top off a bottle and posting slow motion video on Twitter or Instagram. It appears to have started in late June with Taekwondo fighter Farabi Davletchin. Participants are supposed to challenge someone else.
Carey, naturally, eshewed a kick and used something else to send her bottle cap flying. "You win hands down," declared singer Rita Ora. (As talented as she is, Carey actually pulled it off thanks to some clever video editing... so don't try this at home and risk damaging your vocal cords and possibly summoning dogs from afar.)
Bieber, who was challenged by Marshmello, challenged Tom Cruise. (It’s not the first time the pop star has challenged Cruise to something this summer.) "This could be Tom Cruise's head," Bieber said pre-kick, in a video evidently shot on his property in Ontario.
Also showing off their kicks were John Mayer, Diplo, and Ellie Goulding. Country singer Blake Shelton capitalized on the trend to promote his signature brand of vodka.
Unlike the Ice Bucket Challenge five years ago, no good cause is benefitting from the Bottle Cap Challenge – but the good news is that unlike last year’s Kiki Challenge, no one is getting hit by a car door.
