Channel 4 will release a new docuseries this month titled Marilyn Manson: Unmasked, which will examine the recent controversy around the musician (real name Brian Warner) across three episodes.
Originally announced back in October, the series will premiere in the UK on January 13, with the second and third episodes airing the following two nights. The series looks to “unravel the shocking story of one of rock music’s most polarizing figures. From his meteoric rise as the self-proclaimed ‘Antichrist Superstar’ to the chilling abuse allegations that have engulfed his career.”
The doc will feature archive footage as well as interviews with those close to Manson, including several of the accusers, lifelong fans, industry insiders, lawyers, a former band mate, his childhood best friend, and his ex-partner Evan Rachel Wood, who in February 2021, accused her former fiance of sexual assault, psychological abuse, violence, coercion and intimidation. Within 24 hours of the allegations, Manson was dropped by his manager, his agent and his record company.
Co-produced by Rolling Stone Films, Marilyn Manson: Unmasked will explore the allegations that have led to police raids, a criminal investigation and multiple civil lawsuits from women who have accused him of abusive behaviour over the years.
The first episode will document the rise of Marilyn Manson, who emerged from the Florida metal and rock scene in the early '90s, adopting his infamous moniker and establishing his controversial image through his stage antics and popularity with the disaffected youth of America.
The second episode will take a look at the allegations by several of his accusers, including Wood, with the third and final episode will cover the police raids and investigation along with the fallout and aftermath, as well as the implications it has had on the music industry.
