Megan Thee Stallion clapped back this week at a designer who claims the rapper ripped off one of her dresses for her Fashion Nova collection.
“It’s been a dress that has been done a lot, like, over the years,” she said on The Morning Hustle podcast.
In an Instagram post last week, Aazhia Rhy shared side-by-side photos of Megan Thee Stallion’s “Chase The Bag Shoulder Pad Mini Dress” from the Fashion Nova website and her own “White Trunk Mini Dress” at TLZ L’Femme.
“MY DRESS WAS STOLEN AND USED IN THIS MEGAN X FN COLLAB! WAS I TOLD? NO! WAS I COMPENSATED? NO!,” fumed Rhy.
“CRAZY THING IS HER TEAM ACTUALLY REQUESTED THIS DRESS FOR A PULL FOR HER! HER AND HER TEAM ARE COMPLETELY AWARE OF BRAND AND THIS WAS APPROVED BY HER!”
Rhy said she felt disrespected by another Black woman. “TAKEN FOOD OUT MY CHILDS MOUTH IS OK BECAUSE IM NOT ON THE SAME ‘LEVEL’ LOL! YALL R JOKE!”
Megan Thee Stallion countered that she does not always know who her team has contacted and criticized the way Rhy called her out.
“I feel bad that people's initial reaction would be to just come at me like, 'Oh, you a Black woman! You're stealing from Black women!’ And I'm like, ‘Damn, hold on, sis, ‘cause like I don't know you,’” she said.
“If it would have been a real misunderstanding, I wouldn’t have had a problem with saying, ‘Oh, I’m sorry sis. Let me check my stylist, don’t do that, it’s not right.’ I would have had the dress taken down, whatever the money made from the dress, I would have gave the money to the girl if that was really something that she felt like was stolen from her.
"But I don’t feel like that was anything.”
Rhy responded that if Megan Thee Stallion doesn’t believe the design was stolen, why offer to pay her? “I'm vexed because it's condescending, it's disrespectful, it's hypocritical,” she said.
Megan Thee Stallion’s dress at Fashion Nova, which was priced at $50 U.S., no longer appears for sale on the website. Rhy’s dress sells for $188 U.S. at TLZ L’Femme.
