Mel B is expected to make a full recovery from injuries she sustained this past weekend in time for the Spice Girls to kick off their reunion tour on May 24.
The pop star known as Scary Spice took a frightening fall down a narrow set of stairs at a friend’s house in London late Saturday.
Her mother Andrea Brown called it “a freak accident.” She reportedly told MailOnline: “She’s still in hospital … but she’ll be OK and will hopefully be up and about soon and hopefully home for Christmas.”
Mel B took to Instagram on Monday to tell fans she suffered two broken ribs and “a severed right hand” that required three hours of surgery to repair. She used the hashtag #accidentshappen.
“My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs,” wrote Mel B, who also shared a boomerang clip of four of her fellow Spice Girls at her hospital bedside.
The 43-year-old singer took the tumble only hours after appearing at a taping of the special Christmas episode of Channel 4’s The Big Narstie Show on Saturday night.
According to reports by both TMZ and The Sun, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident. (Mel B undergoes regular drug and alcohol testing as part of a custody dispute.)
The pop star was forced to cancel her appearance at New York City’s Strand Book Store, where she was scheduled to sign copies of her new memoir Brutally Honest on Monday night.
The Spice Girls – without Victoria Beckham – are scheduled to do 13 concerts in the UK and Ireland between May 24 and June 15.
