Get ready to bang your head to Metallica… against the dashboard of your car.
The band announced Monday it will broadcast a new performance to dozens of drive-in theatres on Aug. 29.
“It’s been a crazy, hectic, thrilling and exciting time at Metallica HQ as the four of us have all been in the same room making music for the first time in almost a year,” read a statement.
“We’ve been rehearsing at HQ for a show that will be shot specially for the drive-ins at a location nearby later this week and then we’ll pass it off to our award winning production team to then be edited and mixed at the highest standards possible to be beamed into your cars from the big screen.”
Fans can experience the band’s special concert in Raymond, Alberta; Prince George, BC; Flin Flon and Morden, Manitoba; Sussex, New Brunswick; Sydney, Westville and Cambridge, Nova Scotia; Saint-Eustache, Quebec; and Carlyle and Wolseley, Saskatchewan.
Ten drive-ins in Ontario – in Fonthill, Lindsay, Guelph, London, Perth, Newmarket, Stoney Creek, Barrie, Oakville and Tilbury – will also screen the concert.
Tickets for the general public go on sale Aug. 14 at 12 noon local time and each ticket is for one vehicle with up to six people.
“Needless to say, this is an exciting first for us, as we continue to explore new ways to connect with you and keep playing live,” Metallica told fans. “This definitely qualifies as a unique and memorable experience for us. We hope you think so too!”
