Metallica’s James Hetfield is in Calgary shooting the The Thicket, a western flick set to premiere on Fox-owned streaming platform Tubi in October.
The 59-year-old rock star is part of a cast that includes Peter Dinklage, Juliette Lewis and Esmé Creed-Miles. The movie is filming in Alberta until the end of this month with director Elliott Lester.
Set in Texas and based upon the 2013 novel of the same name by Joe R. Lansdale, The Thicket is about orphaned young man Jack Parker, who hires bounty hunter Reginald Jones (Dinklage) to lead a group of misfits searching for Cut Throat Bill (Lewis), the killer who kidnapped his younger sister Lula.
Hetfield is believed to be playing a member of Cut Throat Bill’s notorious gang.
The Metallica frontman previously had a role in the 2019 film about serial killer Ted Bundy, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
Hetfield will be back in Alberta in August 2024 for a pair of concerts at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
