Metallica has consistently kept the legacy of their original bassist Cliff Burton alive since his tragic death in 1986. The group stays in contact with Burton's father and have been vocal about the late bassist's influence and importance to the band.
In an interview with Exclaim TV!, current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo revealed that the opening of their song "ManUnkind," off their new album Hardwired... To Self-Destruct, is a tribute to Burton.
Trujiilo says: “When I had written that, I was definitely thinking about Cliff. In a way, that to me is a tip of the hat to Cliff Burton and the spirit of Cliff. If you hear that little thing before "ManUNkind," for me personally, that was with Cliff in mind.”
In the intro to "ManUnKind," Trujillo's fingers pick a melodic bass line in the style of Burton. Do you hear the tribute? Listen below.
