Metallica's charity foundation has announced a day of service for May 23.
The band has invited fans to join its All Within My Hands foundation by volunteering at food banks.
A video featuring drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo encourages fans to get involved and register at AllWithinMyHands.org to receive a free T-shirt when they check in to volunteer at their local food bank on May 23. Only U.S. food banks are part of the initiative.
"We encourage Metallica fans to unite in the fight against hunger," read a statement from the band.
The All Within My Hands mission statement reads that the foundation "is dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger and other critical local services."
The band emphasizes that every penny donated to All Within My Hands goes directly to benefit its charity partners.
Metallica is poised to begin the next leg of its world tour. The band will tour northern Europe for a few weeks in May, return home in time for the Day of Giving on May 23, take the summer to recharge and head back out on the road in the fall for the final leg of the WorldWired Tour, which includes September stops in Winnipeg and Saskatoon.
