Although we’ve had no new music since 2015’s Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, the singer has been hard at work putting together a comeback album. The single off of that album, titled “Malibu”, is set to drop next week!
Speaking to Billboard, Cyrus said the song is a “breezy love song” and speaks to her love for fiancé, actor Liam Hemsworth. The author of the feature described Cyrus’ new sound as “gimmick-free pop-rock unlike anything she has recorded before.”
The “Bangerz” singer also spoke politics in her cover story, saying that while this new album isn’t overtly political, she would like to have an open-minded discussion with people whose opinions she doesn’t agree with. (Cyrus was a supporter of Bernie Sanders, and then campaigned for Hillary Clinton once she won the nomination). “I have to ask myself, ‘How am I going to create real change?’” she said, “and not just f--king preach to the choir anymore.”
“Malibu” will be available May 11.
