Jeremiah Green, a founding member of indie rock band Modest Mouse, died Saturday of cancer. He was 45.
According to a statement on his mother’s Facebook page, the musician “went peacefully in his sleep.” He was remembered as “a light to so many.”
A message on Modest Mouse’s social media accounts said Green “laid down to rest and simply faded out.”
It added: “I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. These will come later, and from many people.
“Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love.”
The news came only a week after Green’s mother Carol Namatame revealed in a Facebook post that the drummer was battling stage four cancer and asked fans to “please send healing vibes for my son.”
She wrote: “He’s … so strong and so brave and hanging in there!”
A statement from Modest Mouse followed. “Jeremiah was diagnosed with cancer a short while ago, and he’s currently in treatment. It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference.”
Green co-founded Modest Mouse in 1992 with Isaac Brock and Eric Judy. He is survived by wife Lauren and their six-year-old son Wilder and other family members.
