Who better than Moist frontman David Usher to record a version of “Speaking Moistly,” the viral hit sparked by Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau?
“It happened! The ‘Speaking Moistly’ cover we’ve all been waiting for,” tweeted anonymotif, who used the phrase – and other audio from one of Trudeau’s COVID-19 briefings – to create a music video in April that has been viewed nearly 3.3. million times in its first three months.
Usher, who has been singing mostly Moist for almost three decades, covered “Speaking Moistly” with Toronto’s Odin Quartet.
The arrangement of anonymotif’s music and Trudeau’s lyrics was done by Samuel Bisson, who also plays cello on the track. The other musicians are Alex Toskov, Tanya Charles Iveniuk and Veronica Lee.
Moist was scheduled to be part of this summer's cross-Canada Saints and Sinners 2020 Tour with Big Wreck, Headstones and The Tea Party. The tour was postponed due to COVID-19.
