Montreal Mile End venue URSA will officially be changing hands.
Operated by legendary singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright and her partner Nico, the intimate venue first opened at 5589 Parc Avenue five years ago and has since hosted countless concerts, kids' events, fundraisers and community projects alike.
In a social media post earlier today, Wainwright thanks past patrons and assures Montreal's music community that the space will continue to serve as a venue.
"Ursa will be closing on October 1 but the people at POP Montreal and Casa del Popolo will be carrying the torch and continuing booking and running the space under a different name," she writes.
She also adds that she will continue to oversee the kids choir that was formed there as well as the 4-day Montreal Anti-Jazz Police Festival.
Wainwright says the decision to pass the torch was in large part due to wanting to put a greater focus on her music.
Musicians and community groups who are interested in booking the new space are asked to get in touch with Casa Del Popolo's Palden Khe-Changsoo.
