Mötley Crüe announced Monday it has torched its “cessation of touring contract” so it can go on tour next year.
The band, which ended its Final Tour on New Year’s Eve 2015, will hit U.S. stadiums along with Poison and Def Leppard. No dates have been announced yet and it’s not known if the tour will come to Canada.
In a video announcing the reunion tour, Machine Gun Kelly – who played Tommy Lee in the biopic The Dirt – said there has been overwhelming demand for Mötley Crüe to rip up its agreement not to tour.
“In the years since, Mötley Crüe became more popular than ever and gained an entirely new legion of fans who, along with diehard Crüe-heads, demanded the band tear up that stupid contract and come out of retirement,” Kelly explained.
In 2014, Nikki Sixx told Rolling Stone there was a loophole in the contract that “if all four band members agreed to do it, we could override our own contract.” But, he added: “We know that will never happen. There are people in this band who will refuse to ever do it again, and you’re talking to one of them. There is no amount of money that would ever make me do it again because I have such pride in how we’re ending it.”
