Music stars are among the celebrities dipping into their bank accounts to support the fight against raging wildfires in Australia.
Country singer Keith Urban said he and wife Nicole Kidman are donating $500,000 (all figures U.S.) to fire fighters “who are all doing and giving so much right now.”
The couple has a home in Australia. “Our family’s support, thoughts, and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires all over Australia,” he shared in an Instagram post.
Pop star P!nk, who took her Beautiful Trauma tour Down Under last year, is giving back.
“I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires,” she wrote on social media. “I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines.
“My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.”
At a show in Australia, Lizzo told the crowd: “I am with you. I am with you every step of the way." She urged fans to donate and later tweeted links to organizations accepting donations.
Halsey reportedly donated profits from her New Year’s Eve performance in Melbourne, Australia to fire relief.
Over the weekend, Kacey Musgraves tweeted links to information about making donations. She tweeted: “So incredibly saddened and disheartened by the fires in Australia … Laying here feeling hopeless. The despair is overwhelming. How can I help?”
The country star later said she made a donation.
Singer Selena Gomez tweeted that she is “absolutely devastated by the fires in Australia [and] praying for everyone affected and all of the first responders.”
Gomez said she is making a donation and provided a link so her followers can do the same.
“Can’t believe what is happening in Australia right now,” Liam Payne tweeted. “For those who have never been it is one of my most favourite countries I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit... its beauty is slowly being destroyed by fire and we all must help however we can.”
