An Australian musician has accused Doja Cat of using part of his 2016 composition during her performance of “Say So” on the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Plini Roessler-Holgate, an instrumental artist who goes by only his first name, posted clips of Doja Cat’s rock arrangement of her hit and his track “Handmade Cities” on Instagram. In the caption, he alleged the EMAs performance "borrowed a few elements from my song.”
He added: “i think it’s an awesome performance … and more than anything, find it absolutely hilarious that something i wrote 4 years ago in my bedroom would find its way here.”
But, Plini shared his dismay at “the lack of prior communication about it or proper credit upon release.” He said it is “disappointing but not particularly surprising in a sector of the industry that is usually more interested in clout than creativity.”
Plini said “it’s being sorted now” but admitted it “would have been cooler a million views ago.”
