A long list of Canadian music artists insiders have signed their names to an open letter of support for the people of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in B.C.
Earlier this month, the RCMP removed 14 people who were defending Wet'suwet'en land from construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
Members of Billy Talent, Arcade Fire, Arkells, The Beaches, Tokyo Police Club, The Sadies, Whitehorse, and July Talk are among those listed.
“We are horrified by the violence of last week and the RCMP’s continued harassment of your people, and troubled by the exclusion zones erected to keep the press from reporting and Wet’suwet’en citizens from returning to their homes,” reads the letter, which was published Monday.
The statement also takes aim at the prime minister.
“As musicians, we know a PR campaign when we see one," it reads. "Since 2015 Justin Trudeau has promoted a message of Truth and Reconciliation and professed the goal of building meaningful nation-to-nation relationships, but his government’s actions don’t align. Meaningful nation-to-nation relationships are not made at gunpoint.”
