The Rolling Stones have received a new kind of rock honour.
“NASA has given us something we have always dreamed of, our very own rock on Mars,” Mick Jagger told a crowd Thursday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
The "Rolling Stones Rock," about the size of a golf ball, was named after the thrusters of NASA’s InSight robotic lander made it roll less than a metre across the surface of Mars last November.
“I can’t believe it," Jaggers said. "I want to bring it back and put it on our mantelpiece.”
In a statement, JPL’s Matt Golombek said: “I’ve seen a lot of Mars rocks over my career. This one probably won’t be in a lot of scientific papers, but it’s definitely one of the coolest."
