Looks like Morgan Wallen's bad behaviour is coming back to haunt him.
The country superstar's plans to open up his new six-story bar and restaurant this coming Memorial weekend have hit a snag, after the Nashville city council rejected his request to hang a 20-foot sign.
The Tennesseean reports that Wallen's This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen, named after his 2019 hit "This Bar," is not permitted to hang up the giant sign that reads "Morgan Wallen's This Bar" along Nashville's Honky Tonk Highway.
Members of the council voted 30-3 againt the construction and installation of the sign. Approval from the council is required any time a sign is installed or constructed over a public right of way. The council cited Wallen's history of "harmful acts" as its reason for denial, which includes drunkenly yelling a racial slur in February 2021 and throwing a chair from the rooftop of a six-story bar last month.
"I don't want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who's throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs," At-large Council member Delishia Porterfield said.
The council voted 30-3 to deny the aerial encroachment to allow the construction and installation of the sign. Four council members, including 5th Congressional District challenger Courtney Johnston, abstained. Council approval is needed any time a sign is constructed over a public right of way — in this case, a sidewalk in one of Nashville's most iconic districts.
