A drum kit played by the late Neil Peart of Rush in the ‘70s is expected to sell for more than $104,000 in an online auction.
The Slingerland Drum Kit was purchased by the Canadian musician in the summer of 1974 from Long & McQuade in Toronto and used at his first show with the band. Peart used the drums on Fly by Night, Caress of Steel and 2112 and during Rush’s legendary three-night run at Toronto’s Massey Hall when it recorded the live album All the World’s a Stage.
Peart reportedly placed the kit in storage in 1977 and, a decade later, awarded it to a contest winner in New York. One of the heads is signed by the musician.
Bonhams is expecting the piece of Canadian music history will fetch between $104,000 and $157,000. The auction runs until Dec. 9.
Peart died in January after battling brain cancer. He was 67.
