Canadian rock band Nickelback showed some love Tuesday for the Dying Mrs. Gomez sketch on last weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
In the sketch, host Sterling K. Brown’s character Michael is called to the bedside of the elderly Mrs. Gomez, played by Melissa Villasenor, who fell into a mosh pit at a Nickelback concert.
Her final words are the lyrics to Nickelback’s 2001 hit “How You Remind Me.”
“I’ve heard a lot of last words, but your mom’s kicked the most ass,” declared a paramedic, played by Luke Null.
Nickelback got in on the joke, tweeting: "Ms. Gomez (@melissavcomedy) was the best fanclub president we’ve ever had, her loss is palpable..@SterlingKBrown, you had us tearing up in her final moments here on Earth. We hope to see you at a show sometime, so we may properly honour her. #RIPMsGomez"
Villasenor, for one, was impressed. “You guys rock!!! Omg thank you,” she tweeted in response. Brown replied simply: “Bet!”
The sketch has been viewed more than half-a-million times on YouTube since it aired on SNL. (It is not available on YouTube in Canada, where rights are held by Global.)
